It is difficult to find a school outing that meets the official requirements of the Ministry of Education. On school trips or simply during a day near your school, offer a fun activity that calls on the sense of observation and develops team spirit while fitting in with your learning sequence for secondary school! Choose an Urban Rally in one of the 50 cities we cover in France and Europe.
In teams, your pupils will have to search for markers (objects, façades, sculptures, etc.) with a map of the game area and a list of riddles to solve. In order to win, they will have to find a maximum number of markers in the allotted time. This idea of an activity thus crosses several lessons: playing a treasure hunt gives meaning to mathematical notions such as scale, distance or speed. Similarly, orienteering activities are an opportunity to put into practice the notions of location and movement on a map, the use of a legend or a map studied in geography. In secondary schools, a City Rally can also be used to develop oral language skills, as pupils have to interact in small groups and choose the best strategy to reach the markers worth the most points. This is an opportunity to contribute their point of view, to interact effectively and in a controlled manner in a debate with their peers. In PE, solidarity is developed through exchanges between pupils who learn to know each other and help each other to achieve their common goal: performance! In the context of a language stay abroad, the official secondary school programmes emphasise the discovery of the cultural aspects of a living language. Thanks to the City Rallye, your pupils can build up geographical, historical and cultural references in the language studied. The Bulletin Officiel du cycle 4 (2015) indicates that for the teaching of modern languages, it is useful to "understand signs and panels common in public places, at school, for orientation, instructions, safety" (level A2). A city rally is therefore the ideal activity to meet your learning objectives!
In the PE programme at secondary school, pupils adapt their movements to varied or uncertain environments. This field of learning is closely linked to the urban rally because they have to plan and manage their journey and their return to the starting point while preserving their safety and that of others. They regulate their movement according to the environment they think they will encounter based on the study of the map provided. Our City Rallies are accessible to all children from 10 years old. This activity ensures the inclusion in the classroom of students with disabilities and emphasizes the equality between girls and boys who evolve together and equally. With Citeamup, school outings for all are now possible!
